Frame of the Month
Our team were delighted to recently frame a wonderful family heirloom. This doily was crocheted by the grandmother of our customer sometime early in the 1900’s. This decorative needlework piece was approximately 60cm in diameter and was starched to give a 3-D effect. We have been told the doily was crocheted from cotton and the original escru colour was a hangover from the Victorian times which preceded it.
Often the crochet pattern was selected to suit the personality of the owner. Interestingly, despite the complex appearance of the doily and its substantial size, they would often take no more than a week or two to make at the hands of a skilled lady.
Mrs W, our customer, wanted to showcase this special piece of family history in her home in a manner which would preserve it as well as make it look wonderful. Working with our design team, a simple, yet elegant framing composition was designed and then constructed by our head framer, Glenn Andrews.
The final, finished art work is nearly 100 cm square in size and the gold frame and matching fillet gives it an elegant, yet timeless appeal.
